Hindalco has enhanced medical coverage to cover all hospitalisation expenses of not only employees and families, but contract workers, 3rd party employees and their families. Ex-gratia benefits are being provided to support families of deceased employees (including contractual) for housing, medical, schooling and other expenses for the next few years.

Hindalco has boosted medical infrastructure and equipped its own hospitals and health centres with critical care equipment such as CT scan machines, set up oxygen lines in remote locations to serve patients needing ICU care, and enhanced its lab testing facilities. Hindalco has strengthened its medical teams, including adding paediatricians, and upskilling its paramedics. Hindalco’s dedicated team of 77 doctors and 245 paramedics is working round the clock to serve employees and the community.

Supporting the Community

Covid-19 took a huge toll on the livelihoods of informal workers. In this scenario Hindalco set up the Kosala Livelihood and Social Foundation, a not- for-profit company, to mentor women in the art of making textiles including sarees from Kosa silk, thereby, reviving the ancient Kosa silk art form of Chhattisgarh.

Owing to Hindalco’s efforts, the weavers have received their first order worth Rs 8 Lakhs for producing 96 sarees. Additionally, orders were secured for more than 400 combination boxes generating employment for 20 to 25 weavers for 50-60 days which amounted to an average income of Rs21,000 per weaver. An order of Rs5 lakhs for sourcing gift items for Hindalco Women’s Conclave was also received. We were able to establish a thriving eco-system encompassing the entire value chain (cocoon farmers, reelers, weavers, ancillary activities).

A Matter of PRIDE

PRIDE (Performance Recognition in Delivering Excellence) is Hindalco’s way of celebrating creativity and is an opportunity to reward and recognize outstanding contributions during the year. The intent is to reward contributions that have significant long-term benefit and impact to business. The total budget for FY20-21 of PRIDE awards was Rs 41.9 Lakhs in which the National level winners called ‘Champion of Champions’ receive a cash reward of Rs 1.2 lakh per person & the runner up team members called ‘Champions’ receive cash rewards of Rs80,000 per person.
