Ms. Alka Marezban Bharucha

Ms. Alka Bharucha completed her BA Honors and LLB from the University of Bombay, and her LLM from the University of London. Apart from being a solicitor, Bombay High Court and, Supreme Court of London and Wales, she is also an Advocate on Record at the Supreme Court of India.

She began her career with Mulla & Mulla & Craigie Blunt & Caroe. She later became a partner at the erstwhile Amarchand & Mangaldas and Suresh A Shroff & Co. In 2008, she founded Bharucha & Partners which, on inception, was ranked by RSG Consulting, London among the top fifteen firms in India. In her practice as a transactions lawyer, she has advised clients on M&A, PE investments, joint ventures, restructuring, banking & structured finance, corporate governance and more.

In her over 40-year-long career, she has guided companies with major business decisions, new ventures, and corporate structuring – both nationally and internationally. She has worked with clients across sectors like commodity & diversified chemicals, fertilisers & agrochemicals, construction materials, paper packaging, diversified metals & mining along with steel. 

She is also an expert in the telecom sector and has advised MNCs and Indian telecom companies through M&As, IPOs, financing and refinancing. She also worked extensively with power producers, having negotiated coal supply, transportation and other agreements.

She handles capital markets mandates, and has helped setup mutual funds. She provides regulatory advice to FPIs, VCs, brokers, merchant bankers among others. She also advises transnational corporations for investments in retail, defence and manufacturing sectors. She helps establish onshore and offshore funds for real estate companies.

She also provides sustainability and governance related advice to investors as well as corporates on environment related regulations. Her compliance related experience extends from Indian regulators like SEBI to environmental authorities.

She is affiliated with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, as well as Bombay Incorporated Law Society. She has been ranked by prestigious research directories like Chambers Global, Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal as among India’s leading lawyers  including, in particular, in the field of corporate governance.
