Researching Solutions for the Energy Transition

ESG

The transition to cleaner energy systems and more sustainable industrial processes demands continuous research and innovation. Through its industry-academia collaboration with IIT Gandhinagar, Birla Copper is supporting research in areas such as energy efficiency, decarbonisation and emerging technologies that are critical to the future of manufacturing and energy.

Formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the collaboration includes Birla Copper's participation in the newly launched Energy Research Cluster at IIT Gandhinagar, which is a consortium-led platform that brings together industry and academia to address critical energy challenges and drive innovation for national development. The cluster focuses on advancing research in energy efficiency, sustainability, decarbonisation and emerging technologies through collaborative innovation.

The partnership is part of IIT Gandhinagar's broader research ecosystem, which includes Research Clusters, the Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) and the Centre for AI-Driven Innovations launched in June 2026. Together, these initiatives are designed to accelerate multidisciplinary research and strengthen the translation of scientific research into industrial applications.

Beyond research, the collaboration is expected to create opportunities for knowledge exchange, technology development and talent building, while strengthening industry-academia engagement. By combining academic expertise with industrial experience, Birla Copper aims to contribute to practical solutions that support sustainable industrial growth and India's broader vision of Viksit Bharat.
